Abstract： Causal inference from observational data can be conceptualized as an attempt to emulate a hypothetical pragmatic randomized trial: the target trial. This approach allows researchers to clearly define causal questions, articulate key assumptions, and apply appropriate analytical methods to estimate causal effects. This workshop will offer an accessible introduction to the noniterative conditional expectation (NICE) parametric g-formula. Using a concrete example, participants will learn how to apply the target trial framework and the NICE g-formula to estimate the effects of dynamic treatment strategies, along with the assumptions required for causal interpretation. These methods are especially relevant for evaluating sustained treatment strategies in epidemiological research, providing valuable tools for addressing complex real-world questions.
